Alex Ford here. A few weeks ago I was inspired by my friend, Alex Bender. Back then he set himself the challenge to vlog every day for 21 days. The reason he started doing it was because he’s learned that it takes 21 days to create a new habit, so now he’s on purpose with getting better at making vlogs. This made me think that I too should jump on board with the challenge.
So here we go!
Day 1 of my 31 day video challenge on Are Successful People Lucky?…
Today I want to talk about success and what it takes to create it.
Before I had my own business I was in a job and, like a lot of people in society believe, I had a misconception that successful people are lucky. But really, are successful people lucky?
Recently, I was reading a book, titled The Magic of Thinking Big, and there was a section on luck. The author gets the reader to imagine a corporation – let’s use Virgin Atlantic for this example. What would happen if Virgin decided to have a re-organisation of the company and they put every employees’ names in a bucket and they drew out names at random and assigned them to random roles in the company? So random people became the CEO, the CFO, the safety officer, etc. If that did happen, what do you think would happen to the company?
Well, it’s pretty much guaranteed that Virgin Atlantic is going to fail; that there’s going to be so many bad things happen to the company, it’s employees and customers. For example, there’s probably going to be flights that won’t make it to their destinations or anywhere they go.
Now, this is exactly what happens when you start relying on luck for creating success – it just won’t work. The universe hasn’t been designed to make people successful through luck.
So what does success really come down to?
1. Make a decision to be successful
You must decide that you’re going to be successful in whatever area you choose, no matter what. Whether you want to be a successful doctor, lawyer, entrepreneur or athlete, it doesn’t matter; you just have to decide you want to be successful. It’s your decision if you want to create something extraordinary, if you don’t want to settle for average and if you want to live outside the box. It’s also your decision if you want to create something that’s going to positively impact the generations to come.
2. Going on a journey of self-discovery
It takes a decision to go on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. You see, you need to get the right education so you can eliminate the thoughts, beliefs and habits that are keeping you average; and so you can create the thoughts, beliefs and habits that will make you successful.
3. Have a vision for your life
Vision is knowing exactly the life you want to be living 5-10 years time from now. If you don’t have a vision, how will you know where you are going and make the right decisions to get there?
4. Take action towards your vision
Once you have a vision for your life, the next step is to take action. If you have a vision for your life and you visualise it but don’t take action, that’s called “wishing” and you’ll never create the life you want. For example, if you want to create $300,000 in the next 12 months but you’re sitting on your coach visualising it all day, every day, you’re going to be on that same couch for a very long time. On the other hand, to achieve your goal of $300K, you’ll need to get the right education, the right mentor, the right business, or whatever is going to get you that result.
Success doesn’t come down to luck – it comes down to what you’re going to do about it. If you have the vision, and you take action, then you can make it happen!
